Xaquín Nuñez Sabaris
Xaquín Núñez Sabarís is a doctor in Hispanic Philology by the University of Santiago de Compostela and an associate professor in the Romance Studies Department, at the Institute of Arts and Human Sciences (Instituto de Letras e Ciências Humanas – ILCH) of the University of Minho. Currently, he is Vice-President of the ILCH. Formerly he was a Spanish professor at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brazil), at the Public Administration National School (Poland) and at the Warsaw Cervantes Institute.
His research work focuses on literary studies, mainly the Spanish contemporary narrative. He has published numerous books and articles in scientific reference magazines, about modernism and the works of several Spanish contemporary writers in scientific reference magazines, mainly Ramón del Valle-Inclán. A study about this author’s work (“Valle-Inclán en el Fin de Siglo. Femeninas”), granted him the First Valle-Inclán Essay Prize from the Deputación de Pontevedra. He has recently coordinated the editing of the book “Diálogos Ibéricos sobre a Modernidade”. In terms of comparatism, it is important to point out the critical articles “Valle-Inclán en la escena portuguesa”, “Caminos inciertos, caminhos cruzados. La novela urbana en Camilo José Cela y Erico Veríssimo” or “La recepción de Eça de Queirós en Valle-Inclán: las traducciones”.
He is a researcher of the Centre for Humanistic Studies of the University of Minho, in the Research Groups “Retrato e Representação” and “ContArt”. He also participated in the University of Minho project “Mutações do conto nas sociedades contemporâneas: exuberância e minimalismo”, financed by FCT.
He is also a member of “Grupo de Investigación” of the University of Santiago de Compostela, devoted to the study of Valle-Inclán’s works.
