IICM
About us
Casa de Mateus International Institute was created in 1986. It is a non-profit scientific, technical and cultural association based in Vila Real, in the Casa de Mateus.
Together with the Casa de Mateus Foundation, are founding members of the Institute, the Universities of Coimbra, Lisbon (the Classical, the Technical and the New one), Oporto, Aveiro, Minho, Évora, Açores, Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro, Algarve and Beira Interior; as well as scientific and cultural associations such as the Lisbon Academy of Sciences, the Lisbon’s Geographic Society, the Portuguese Naval Academy and the Portuguese Academy of History. Later joined the National Laboratory for Civil Engineering.
The IICM’s purpose is to encourage the debate and to promote the interdisciplinary and in-depth analyses of the problems that affect Portuguese speaking countries and countries where there is a relevant cultural and economic Portuguese presence.
The IICM also aims at fostering the bonds between all the personalities that may, due to their skills and capacities, contribute to a dynamic cooperation in the implementation of its activities.
Each year, the Casa de Mateus International Institute organises and welcomes national and international seminars in which scientists, artists, writers, politicians, economists and other individualities with strong cultural interests, exchange their views and contribute to the debate on issues of relevance for current societies.
